In this case, I'd nominate this one for "2008 Card of the Year" even if it wasn't made in 2008. This Phelps card seemed to be everywhere this summer, countless blogs, and Beckett magazines hotlists and articles. It seemed pretty desirable to collectors.
In my opinion, I think it gets nominated for "Card of the Year" because of the noise, substantial increase in value as chronicled by Beckett this summer, and seems to fit the general 'good looking card' criteria.
But if the 2008 Card of the Year has to be made in '08, then it obviously fails the Danny Almonte' birth certificate test.
